So far I have seen papers suggesting TMAO may be linked to (as I recall) :
CVD
Inflammatory bowel disease
Chronic Kidney Disease
Whether it will turn out there is a connection is another thing.
What has this to do with metabolic/systemic maloldor ?
My current opinion is that the most likely cause of most cases of metabolic malodor is to do with FMO3 enzyme substrates, trimethylamine being one. FMO3 was largely ignored by medical science until the proposed TMA-oxide/CVD connection in 2011. So all this research into checking if there may be a connection to major health disorders is very welcome as it may lead to more understanding of FMO3 and perhaps therapies.
These 2 new published papers are about a possible TMA-oxide and Chronic Kidney Disease connection. It seems to imply those with CKD and CVD may have higher TMA-oxide levels ?
