Potential Therapies
Quick ref (for FMO3/TMAU).
titles :Drug Repurposing.
TMA blocker.
Methane Pathway (TMA to methane ... using cloned enzyme from microbe ... 'probiotic').
Gene Therapy.
FMO3 oral pill (to act in gut).
Ataluren (for NONSENSE mutations only).
Systemic Body Odor will likely be due to mainly 2 factors :
1. weakness in a metabolic enzyme.
2. substrate overload (of an enzyme).
My long-time suspicion is the enzyme to blame is ... FMO3.
Until persuaded differently.
Other potential suspect enzymes :
Oxidizing enzymes (e.g. CYP450 enzymes).
Conjugation enzymes (unlikely imho. They would smell of certain smells imho.)
FMO3/TMAU therapies
DRUG REPURPOSING to improve FMO3 function
chances of success (imho) : 9/10
benefit : 10/10
Repurposing is where old drugs are tried on FMO3 cells to see if any improve function without side effects.
This is a well-used format in pharma research.
A Metabolic Consultant is willing to put FMO3 'through the ringer' but they need around $80 USD to employ someone fulltime for the 2 year study.
This has a very good chance of success.
What's needed :
A trusted party (person or group) to raise the funds.
Current outlook : not good.
blog post on this
'Drug the TMA causing bacteria'.
Cleveleand Clinic 'DMB' work :
Aim is to create a choline mimic that confuses the bacteria to sluggishly produce TMA.
P&G agreement Aug 2015.
When to market ? Unknown. Could be 1-5 years. So far has only done mice-work.
'TMA to Methane bacteria' (trimethylamine-dehydrogenase enzyme)
Methane producing bacteria break down TMA to methane.
Previously would have needed to take microbe with the enzyme.
Now would clone the enzyme to known harmless gut microbe.
Probably take enzyme from Archaea.
Optimism score : 80% ?
Could be done now ? probably.
Chances of happening : currently 10% ?
This post is a work in progress
